Bye Bye ‘Baby weight’

IMG_8691

Well I say baby weight, the baby in question is 18 months old already so really I have no excuse to still be carrying around these extra pounds. But hey ho I am so it’s now time to shift them.

YO YO dieter

In the past I have tried various diets. Most recent was the Cambridge weight plan.         Did it work I hear you saying? Yes it did it pretty much consisted of shakes, bars and substitute meal substitutes. I lost around 10lb in about 3 weeks! To be honest I was starving and I only did it as we was going on holiday and needed to fit into some of my holiday clothes. Good for a  quick fix however over the summer I soon piled it back on plus more.

Slimming world

I have been a member of Slimming world in the past and lost weight slower and gradually. It completely changes the way I now think about food. It helps to get a balanced diet and educated me to look at food differently. Its a diet where you can eat anything, no weighing food and u can eat chocolate! In moderation that is. The weight did stay off after that diet…until I had baby no 3.

New Year, New Me

So today it’s a new year new me time! Stood on the scales this morning and I am now around the weight I was when I was carrying Malachy (no3) at full term! So it’s time I give myself a shake!! not a Cambrige one tho!! Literally.

This is a big year for me! I’m turning 30 in 12 weeks! So I want to be a stone less at least by then!! I find it difficult to get out and exercise with the kids around or trying to attend any classes due to babysitters etc so I struggle to get any sort of exercise. Apart from the daily exercise that consists of running after 3 kids. Does that really count?

I said yes!!

I have longed to be a bridesmaid my whole life! Always the bride never the bridesmaid I suppose, I’ve only been married once btw, and its till death us do part. I’ve always been hopefuly waiting for one of my brothers to get married and they would have me of course their only sister to be bridesmaid. I mean why not! However they don’t even have girlfriends so I could be waiting a while. So all my hopes were nearly diminished… So when my friend Emma asked me last year I was over joyed as you can imagine! I couldn’t believe it! I’m so excited for their wedding! And the lucky groom to be is my cousin!

I’ve been asked by my good friend Emma to be her bridesmaid in September! So this gives me the boot up the bum to get going and stop eating!! I will not be a fat bridesmaid!! That is my goal.

Healthy mum food

So I’ve decided I’m not going on a ‘diet’ this time I’m just healthy eating myself thin. I love fruit and veg so it should be a walk in the park right? Meal planning is the way ahead!

Follow me in my journey in my blog. I’ll do a weigh in every Monday to keep you all up to date.

Today’s menu consisted of

Breakfast

Lunch

yellow split pea soup, low fat yoghurt and an apple

Dinner

5%fat steak mince, chilli con carne spice mix, kidney beans and pasta. Easy peasy! With a sprinkle of cheese on top.

All these meals are considered free on the Slimming world plan.

In between meals for snacks I had cups of tea/coffee or fruit.

Well done me! No selections boxes consumed today! Very proud of myself!

On board for Christmas

Sean drew the short straw with his rota this year and ended up being away for both Christmas and New year. Which meant I either stay at home with the kids or join him on the boat.

No mess, No leftovers

Since the boat would be tied up in Aberdeen for 2 days over Christmas I decided to tag along and bring my mum, dad and two brothers too. For support of course! The company allows him to do this. Which I think is a pretty good perk! No stress no Christmas dinner prep, no mess! However the down side meant no leftovers and I had to cart all the kids presents through in the car. As Santa the good man that he is would come to the boat!

The kids throughly enjoyed the mini break. As it was single bed cabins Ivy shared a cabin with my dad, and Gracie with my mum. Malachy was in a crib in Sean and I cabin. Malachy was a nightmare, the age he’s at just now is just so frustrating. Christmas Eve he cried the whole night. I suppose the strange bed and New surroundings threw him off a bit. So when the girls knocked on the door at 7am shouting has Santa been seems like I’d only slept for about 5minutes.

I can’t function without sleep, so often when seans away I’m in bed by 8.30 ready for what the next day will bring with a good sleep behind me!

The Next Sale

So anyways it was a lovely few days away. Boxing Day arrived I had to jump at the chance of going along to the Next sale as we stay 50miles from our closest next store. So that day at 5.30 I brought my mum along as she’s never endured the sale at that time in the morning before. I gave her a prep talk her in the 2 mile long queue as we awaited the doors to open at 6! Don’t stick together, just dive right in there, grab every-size, even if your not sure just bag it anyways, you can return it all, go for the most expensive items first! Boots, coats etc. As I informed her I could hear the couple behind me doing the same! She was prepping her husband/boyfriend/partner on the next size the kids would require to go for that! Which I’m sure he would never remember as there was about 4 kids she rattled off! Anyways we got a good haul! Mother seemed to be pleased with her buys!

Headed home that day to unload the car into the middle of my living room where the chaos of Christmas began all over again.

Love Christmas chaos!

Xx

Welcome to my blog!

For those of you who don’t know me I’m April. I am happily married to my husband Sean we’ve been married for nearly 7 years! We have been blessed with 3 beautiful children…Ivy age 5, Gracie age 3 and Malachy age 18months. We live in a small picturesque village in the north east of Scotland.

Nurse

I trained as a nurse about 10 years ago and been practicing on and off between having babies, but reluncantly gave up my perminanent part time job after Malachy was born to concentrate on bringing up the brood, as I felt asking any grandparent to look after 3 kids is a big ask! I still work the odd agency shift to keep up my registration from time to time. I loved my job as a community nurse so found it hard giving it up. Sometimes I liked just being ‘April’ at work instead of being ‘mum’ all the time (also getting lunch and tea breaks in peace is great without someone stealing a bite of my sandwich or wanting a toilet break when I’ve just sat down to eat)

Family life

We are a well grounded family I would say. Sean works as a Captain on board the North Link Ferry from Aberdeen to Shetland so he leaves me with the brood for 2 weeks That’s when the fun really begins! When he comes home after his trip I can be seen running for the hills…alone! In Seans spare time he has a small boat that he goes out fishing for crab lobster and mackerel during the summer months. We are very close with our paretnts and extended family’s and they play a big part in our life’s. Both of us were brought up in Christian homes which leads me to my next chapter.

God

We are a Christian family and we aim to bring our family up in a Christian and loving home and guiding them towards God as we were. We attend the Assembly of God church at Fraserburgh It’s a great church full of people buzzing for God! If you think church is boring or stiff, you should go there and it will categorically change your minds! Check out their page Here. Like most families at times we struggle with our Christian life’s as there is many stumbling blocks that come our way that test us. We are not perfect and don’t try to be. I believe every hurdle is out there to test our faith. I pray about everything and try not to worry too much as God is always in control of my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my faith in God. God is the centre of our home! Amen Sister!
